Torres made three guitars for Francesco Tarrega; the first was an 1864 instrument designated in Romanillos’s catalogue as FE17. It is lavishly ornamented and features most of the decorative motifs used by Torres throughout his career: meander (or Greek key), fine green and white wheat-ear (or herringbone), the chequerboard, and the lozenge.
